GO TO PUERTO RICO USA
"GO TO PUERTO RICO USA" is a paradox between the creation of images of real places and people while changing our perception of what we are used to see. Advertisment and turism companies create desirable versions of reality, using images that work upon their agenda. These companies manipulate icons, places, people and symbols. W&N confront this ambiguos reality presenting a different perception with images that approaches to the daily life of the people that work and live in the Old San Juan, center of turism and capital of Puerto Rico USA. Pigeons all over, deteriorated buildings and alleys, lottery and horse gambling, public "forgotten" art, among other situations, are presented in postcards that are distributed secretly in souvenirs shops. Since this stores are frecuently visited by turists, it allows them to recognize what as a passerby could not ignore. Reality and representation are concerned through the experience of the visitor here, in the "Enchanted Island" of Puerto Rico USA, where nothing is what you were ment to see.

The international Contemporary Fair of
Photo-Based Art, Video, and New Media.
December 6-10, 2006
For Photo Miami FGA has invited a selected group of emerging artists from Puerto Rico to develop a series of images that investigate the role of photography in contemporary Caribbean society, propaganda and advertisement. Works will also comment on modern theory and construction by drawing sarcastic connections between Walter Benjamin’s analysis of the aura, the construction of collages by Kurt Schwitters, and the culmination of the advertisement banner as an artistic medium by Muntadas.
Others themes to be explored in the DAMS are surveillance, homogeneous architecture, concentration camps, rock 'n roll poster design, and tourism.
All works will be presented in large-scale photographic vinyl banners, placed in a "sort of " vertical column that will extend from the ground to the ceiling, creating a flagpole that should be visible from all the perimeters at the exhibition grounds. The artists will also invade diverse spaces and areas at the fair grounds.
